|THE PARADE OF AKC BREEDS - WORKING GROUP - THE ANATOLIANS HAVE ARRIVED!||THE ANATOLIAN SHEPHERD DOG was approved by the AKC in 1996. This is an ancient breed originally from Turkey where the breed has been in existence for over 2000 years. The Anatolian Shepherd Dog is a working guard dog without equal, with a unique ability to protect livestock. He is a large, rugged, powerful and impressive dog possessing great endurance and agility. This is not a glamour dog. Alert and intelligent, calm and observant. Instinctively protective, he is courageous and highly adaptable. He is very loyal and responsive. Highly territorial, he is a natural guard. In the United States, the Anatolian Shepherd Dog has a loyal following. Many dogs are used for their original purpose as livestock guardians protecting llamas, sheep and goats from predators such as coyotes, wolves and bears. This is a dog that needs a job otherwise he can and will be destructive. Several of these dogs attend ongoing obedience classes as "their job" and have received their Canine Good Citizen certificates. Today we have Sebastian, a ten-year old champion veteran - and two of his children who are four years old: Aladdin and Leyla. We also have two ten month old puppies. The tallest dog here, Sinbad, is one of these young puppies.|
